If the table is coming apart anyway, recover it

This is the single most useful thing to know about moving a pool table. Recovering requires the rails to come off and the cloth to come off the slate, which is most of the labor in a teardown. If you are already paying for a move, adding a recover costs a fraction of what it costs as a standalone visit later, because the table is already apart and the crew is already there.

The rule of thumb: if the cloth is more than five or six years old, or the table is going somewhere it will get played harder than it used to, do it during the move. If the cloth is nearly new, do not.

Same logic applies to cushion rubber. The rails are already off. If the bounce has gone dead, that is the cheapest moment in the table's life to fix it. More on felt replacement.
